The phenomenon of the iPhone somewhat overshadowed the success of the iPod Touch. Despite having no mobile phone hardware built into its device, the iPod Touch has become a similarly important multimedia gadget complete with a broad range of accessories - as well as its ability to store and view music, images and videos across a 3.5" touch screen display.
With three generations of handsets now on the market, it can be very difficult to distinguish between the models. September 2009 saw the reissue of the 2nd generation product and the current 3rd generation models, which boast the current 3.1.1 iPhone OS. Storage capabilities of the 3rd generation models were improved to offer 32GB and 64GB capacities, including an increased memory from 128 to 256MB of RAM. While the reissued 2nd generation and 3rd generation models were lighter at 115g and ergonomically pleasing to the eye, they are still vulnerable to cosmetic damage.
